“He not busy being born is busy dying” - Bob Dylan
If you are no longer willing to blindly follow the rules society, our family or our culture dictates, and you are ready to define and design what a successful life means for you, you are in the right place.
What is like to work with me?
I've been told that I have a way about me where people feel safe and able to open up to me, realizing that there is no judgment coming from me whatsoever. I will show up to work with and support you 100%. But I won’t be here to please you. I will call you on your BS “stories” and show you where limiting beliefs and fears are holding you back. I will tell you the things that nobody else does. I will challenge you to think creatively and outside of the box, expanding beyond constraints of your current reality. I will push to you to do and to be more than you ever thought possible. That’s because I know you’re smart, ambitious, and much more powerful than you think you are. I know that you can achieve anything you want personally and professionally.
What will our journey look like?
We will design your success by adapting Design Thinking, a systematic and creative process for developing new products and services, to the process of visioning and achieving your personal definition of success. The three phases of designing your success--Understand, Explore, and Act--provide a macro-level journey for our work together and a micro-level process for working through specific challenges, obstacles, and/or goals.
Over the course of our time together, you will learn and practice this process so that you can apply it to any aspect of your life that you want to “redesign.”
Understand —This phase is about getting a holistic view of who you are, what matters to you, and what your current obstacles or problems are. We look at this from three different and equally important angles:
You. We deep dive into your personality, motivations, attitudes, beliefs, values, behaviors, and unconscious patterns. We discover what lights you up and what drains you, what brings you joy and what brings you sadness, anger, fear, or anxiety.
Your Environment. We create a holistic picture of your physical (e.g. home, office, city) and cultural surroundings (e.g., work, religious, ethnic, political, etc) and how those influence your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. We also examine what social norms or rules you play by in your family, work, and social circles.
Your Relationships. Who are the most important people in your life? Just like with you, and your environment, we examine which relationships energize you, which drain you, and which you wish could be different in some way. We pay keen attention to how the people in your life influence - positively and negatively - your ability to achieve your visions.
Explore — Once we have a deeper understanding of you, your environment and relationships, we craft a big vision of how things could be different and explore possible ways of getting there. In some cases, we will explore new ways of doing things. In others, we will explore new ways of thinking, feeling, or being. We will try different things on for size (e.g., what’s a new belief you could have?) and search for evidence that these new things can become (or already are!) a reality. At this stage, we will think creatively and outside of the box, expanding beyond constraints of your current reality.
Act — No change comes without action. At this stage, we will take the possibilities we’ve explored and put them into action. We will focus on four core elements of acting--test & measure, iterate, implement, maintain. You will learn the “it’s all research” philosophy of every action and its outcome. First, you will test a new action with intention of measuring the outcome (was it a success? A complete failure? Something in-between?). We will then work together to make tweaks (iterate) and you will try again (test). When something feels implementable for the long term, we will create strategies for maintaining that action. When something feels like it needs to be completely reworked, we will go back to the Explore phase and try on possibilities until we land on new actions to test.
A few things you will learn along the journey:
The process is not linear. We will circle back to different phases as necessary.
You can be in different phases for different parts of your life simultaneously (e.g., in the Testing phase for one thing, while still in the Understand phase for another). Sometimes those may even inform each other.
There is no prescribed amount of time for each phase. Some problems may require more understanding, while others will be fairly clear but require lots of testing.
There is no final or perfect “Design”. Just as products get updated and refreshed, so too will your life.
How will we work together?
The journey of designing your success on your own terms is not for everyone. You and I will work together for a period a 6-12 months. Our time together with be highly personalized to you and your specific goals. You must be ready to invest more than money. Our journey will require commitment, energy, patience, humor, a sense of play, and a willingness to break some rules.
Is this you?
I work with high achievers. They have a track record of success and regardless of where they are right now, they know more is possible for them.
I work with people who are open to new ideas and experiences. They are excited by the notion that what got them to where they are today may not get them where they want to next go next.
I work with people who are ready to show up fully and to take risks. They know success lies outside the boundaries of their comfort zone.
I work with people who know that fear is something to run toward, not away from, and that everything they desire is on the other side of that fear.
I work with people who crave feedback. They know the only way to improve their results is to collect massive amounts of feedback on what is working and what isn’t.
I work with action takers.
If you are a “Hell Yes” to doing and being more than you ever thought possible, let’s have a conversation.
